At first glance, there appears to be very little in common between silver and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). One is a naturally occurring precious metal, the other a man-made thermoplastic polymer resin. When recycled, however, both are very resistant and yet capable of being purified. For every 100 pounds of X-ray film, for example, 10 ounces of silver can be separated down to metal form once the organic materials are roasted off. It was United Resource Recovery Corporation (URRC) that first discovered this same process could apply to PET.

The company, founded in 1992 as a photosilver bearing film Recovery Company, two years later developed and patented the Hybrid UnPET process for chemically super cleaning PET chip for food grade packaging. waste.
